Rzeczpospolita names the Individual Retirement Account with Legg Mason Equity the ‘best’.

13.12.2010

The Individual Retirement Account (IKE) with the Legg Mason Equity Fund wins the Top Polish IKE Ranking by Rzeczpospolita for the third consecutive year. In the last 6 years, this product generated a return of 102.9 percent.

Those who decided to transfer their money to investment funds have accumulated the highest assets in their Individual Retirement Accounts. From September 2004 to September 2010, the rate of return for the best fund available within the IKE schemes, Legg Mason Equity, was nearly 103 percent, while the second best, Arka Equity, generated over 90 percent. The analysis prepared by a Polish nationwide daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita is difficult to challenge. Legg Mason Equity Open-End Investment Fund [Legg Mason Akcji FIO] turns out to be the most profitable item among the best IKE-offering solutions, i.e. investment funds.

In its class, the flagship product of Legg Mason Poland not only earned the highest profit in the 5- and 6-year timespan, but also clearly outperformed the other funds. Of the 51 funds included in the ranking, only 11 managed to exceed the 50-percent return barrier in the last six years.

“Again, we proved that the investment process employed by our Investment Fund Company, which is based on searching for undervalued companies with the use of the fundamental analysis, works well in various market conditions. The underlying reasons of our success include both our consistency in using such value investing approach and also our emotional distance from ongoing events in the markets,” says Jacek Treumann, a member of the Management Board of Legg Mason TFI. “Despite the great crisis and devastating collapse of the market in 2008, our fund’s performance proves that it is possible to keep the annualized return at a level of 12% in the long run. I think our clients who have opted for long-term regular investing products, like IKE (IRA account), should be particularly happy.”

In addition to Legg Mason Equity’s performance, (103-percent return), Rzeczpospolita also published results of the best insurers (72.6 percent.), banks (44.8 percent) and T-bonds (52.1 percent).
